Maxine and Jim Mai

Hi Class, First off, thanks to Ann and Bob for getting the class web going. I thought it was a good idea and I know it takes much time. Thanks again. I'm slowly trying to get them info for some of the class.

What's new for me in the last 60 years? As you know I went to K-State for the degree in home economics teaching. Then as I graduated Jim and I were married so here I am still in Lenora. Then Fort Hays was used to complete an elementary degree. I taught in Edmond then Lenora all with 1st, 2nd, and kindergarten classes for a total of 34 years. After retirement, which hasn't happened as I keep busy, I subbed in all classes from early childhood through high school at Norton, Logan and Hill City. Really enjoyed it as you go in, do the days plans, leave and don't worry about certain students. Have not subbed for the last 2 years as my hearing is horrible even with hearing aids. Classroom activity needs good ears.

So Jim was always farming and for the first 30 years did custom wheat harvest from OK to here. Then all the farm activity kept me paying attention to what was needed on the farm as a gofer and cooking for whoever was working.

Then after 10 years Nita and Jared came along. Nita went to K-State. She is in Kansas City area working for CV drugs in management after being in several other areas of the country but was in management. Then Jared went to Fort Hays but is here farming and does custom silage work in the fall. Neither are married and by now it doesn't look as if they will be. Jared has had a live in friend for 15 years with 3 grown children and 9 grandkids which are around some. She is an LPN which keeps her busy but on occasion I take care of kids.

Yes, Jim has not retired and has always been busy with the farm but this February had neck surgery, and now knee surgery do to all of old arthur build up in his joints especially the back and knees. So he has been staying in to heal and thank heavens Jared was here to slave as there are over 200 cows to take care of plus all the spring planting. Jim hopes to help bale. We'll see. It has been dry even had some snow but not enough to build up sub soil and then had rain in late May that-was really needed so hope will have more timely rain the rest of the summer to let everything grow in the pastures and fields.

We were not travelers but did go to Vegas when Jim's mother was there at spring break. Now I keep busy with the Sr. Center cooking on occasion as a sub, don't want it full time. Then helping with church, F.C.E., library and whatever, keeps me busy. Enjoyed the web site to date.

Keep in touch with the web and again thanks to Bob and Ann.
